I don't know if either of you have any bandwidth left to design/fabricate a boombox or faceplate we can mount our working speakers onto. I can try and whip up something this weekend, maybe something acrylic? It would be nice to have it on display on Tuesday.
Let me know what you think. :)https://gitlab.cba.mit.edu/calischs/speaker-plotting/-/issues/4Future Discussion2018-12-13T16:31:01ZElena Chong LooFuture DiscussionHi buddies,

I would like to open up a discuss issue for future research area that we could explore with this application that @calischs has enabled us to do. What are the chances of making an end effector that could do the same wire plotting on an affordable CNC machine?
Some of my friends asked if it is open-source, some even offered to pay for a pair of the planar speakers even-though it is a prototype. I think we could make some interesting contribution out of this experience.
We know this will all depends on Sam's availability and interest in the month of January. In any case, we could explore on our own based on his work (end-effector design, scripts, etc - if he does not mind we using it.) We will be just as happy if @calischs could just serve as a mentor while we do all the work.https://gitlab.cba.mit.edu/calischs/speaker-plotting/-/issues/3new coils done2018-12-11T17:26:51ZSam Calischnew coils doneHi guys,

On sunday, I was having trouble with the coil plotter, but I fixed the problem tonight. The wire kept getting pulled off the substrate -- I thought it was a Z-height issue. Actually, what was happening was that the very curvy toolpath of this speaker was putting too much unbalanced axial force on the small bearing that lays down the wire. When I took the tool apart, I could feel the characteristic "crunchy" feel of an overloaded bearing that no longer turns well. It's only 3mm x 1mm, so the static load rating is only ~3 kg. I replaced it with a 3mm x 1.5mm bearing, which should increase its lifetime. I also slowed the speed of the tool down a bit.

I just finished drafting out the rest of the documentation. Please take a look and edit in the missing information (look at some of the comments in the README.md file). I will upload the images and videos to the cloud so you all can use it for your own personal documentation as well later today.
Thanks for the Hard Fun! :Dhttps://gitlab.cba.mit.edu/calischs/speaker-plotting/-/issues/1Availability and membrane size2018-12-13T13:45:27ZZijun WeiAvailability and membrane sizeHey Sam, we are wondering what dimension of the frame we should be using.
