Ideas to boost supply & minimize demand of optically transparent sheet stock
it seems like a lot of local efforts w/ 3d printed shields are looking to make ~1000 face shields per month, which is useful for communities that don't have easy access to mass production/need immediate assistance. However, as talked about during the 04/07 meeting that just happened, it sounded like local efforts (1000+) are straining mass production efforts (1M+) by draining optically transparent plastic stock.
Are there idle machines that could be tapped to recycle/reuse eg. 2-Liter soda bottles for face shields, w/ some of the refined designs we already have? This would probably be easiest.
Or maybe utilize other sized optically transparent bottles as well (shred and sheetpress)? Not sure how to maintain optical properties if shredding and remelting.
